The Ride is a memoir theatre piece that recounts personal stories from Ramy’s life on his path to self-discovery and how he came to recognize himself as a gay Muslim man. The Ride takes the audience on an epic journey with highs and lows and offers lessons learned on the bumpy road from self-loathing to self-love.
Ramy El-Etreby is a queer, Muslim, Arab American writer, performer, storyteller and educator based in Los Angeles, California. Ramy’s short story, "The Ride", was originally featured in the ground-breaking anthology, Salaam, Love: American Muslim Men on Love, Sex, and Intimacy, which he has developed into a solo theatre piece. He is a VONA/Voices fellow and holds an MA in Applied Theatre from the CUNY School of Professional Studies.
Zahra Noorbakhsh is an award-winning comedian and co-host of the #GoodMuslimBadMuslim podcast. The podcast was invited to record an episode at the Obama Whitehouse. The Pop Culture Collaborative has named Zahra their 2018 Sr Fellow on Comedy for Social Change. Her newest standup show, "On Behalf of All Muslims: A Comedy Special" is currently in development and set to debut at San Francisco's Brava Theatre, June of 2019.
